Work with punches (hourly timecard only) - employees
Note: If you have pending changes in your timecard for the loaded timeframe, the Pending Changes panel opens automatically when you open the timecard.
The system can require you to specify an assignment in the Assignment field when you punch in. This field and its values are determined by:
- Whether your manager has configured you as a single assignment or multiple assignments employee
- Whether or not you are punching for a scheduled shift
Single and multiple assignments employees
If you are a single assignment employee, the Assignment field is not displayed when you punch. Rather, the system uses the assignment configured on your People Information record for this value, as it is the only assignment associated with you.
If you are a multiple assignments employee, the system populates the Assignment field with your scheduled assignment; if you do not have a scheduled assignment or the scheduled assignment is inactive, the system uses the primary active assignment that has been configured for you. In either case, you can change the assignment to any other active assignment that has been configured for you.
See Multiple Assignments for more information.
Note: This section applies only to multiple-assignment employees.
When your manager creates an assignment for you, the assignment status is Active. Later, however, assignment status can be changed to Inactive. The transition from Active to Inactive status can occur after you have punched in with an active assignment. (As an employee, you cannot select an inactive assignment for a punch, but your manager can create scheduled shifts with inactive assignments.) This transition can affect how the system treats subsequent punches (for a break, or for the end of a shift, for example). Consider these examples:
Attestation punches
If you are an Attestation The act of confirming or attesting that something is true. For example, when punching out, users may need to attest that they took their meal breaks. employee working a scheduled shift with an inactive assignment and forget to punch in, when you next punch (out), the system uses your primary assignment for the punch and treats it as an In punch for the primary assignment. Your timecard (My Timecard) correctly records the time of the punch, but the punch displays the inactive scheduled assignment, and not the active primary assignment.
Non-Attestation punches
If you are a non-Attestation employee and have punched in for a scheduled shift with an inactive assignment, punching a second time using the Punch tile A container that provides navigation or action from its summary view. creates a new In punch for your primary assignment. It does not record a punch for the existing shift, which is associated with an inactive assignment.
Punching back from a break
If you are punching back from a scheduled shift with an inactive assignment, the system behaves differently depending on where you perform the punch:
- If you perform the punch from the Punch tile, the system uses your primary active assignment for the punch
- If you perform the punch from My Timecard, the system uses the inactive position associated with the scheduled shift
Inactive positions are never displayed or available from the Punch tile for employees.
